Identify the procedural stage
Clarify whether there is a complaint, notice, FIR, summons, arrest, remand or prior bail order. Share the police station, court, case number and next listed date where known.
Preserve relevant material
Retain messages, call records, location information, financial records and other original material that may be relevant. Do not alter, delete, backdate or manufacture a record.
- Avoid contacting witnesses or complainants without advice.
- Share medical or dependency information only where relevant and accurate.
- Disclose prior proceedings or orders to counsel at the outset.
Keep expectations realistic
No responsible consultation can guarantee an order or timeline. Counsel can explain the available route, relevant factors, documents required and immediate preparation needed.
